Map Reading Skills
Map reading is a very important skill when sending responders to 911 calls. In an effort to help you understand the level of knowledge of 'where are you' to the general public, print out and complete these two exercises without assistance from any source, and submit them to your teacher/trainer. Although we have GPS and caller ID, these two location technologies do no good with a caller is trying to describe a location with no address, an unfamiliar place, or when technology isn't working as it should.
Next go to www.googlemaps.com and enter your town or city. Answer the following questions regarding your town or a portion of your city. What are the names of all the bodies of water on this map? What are the names of all highways and freeways on this map and list the direction they travel (e/w n/s or meander).
